Few things you should consider while choosing your career

A career is an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress.

* Make career research- you’ve managed to shortlist a few options, find out more with online research. Then try to meet people who can help you find out more. You can ask your family and friends if they have any good contacts, attend university open days and
school leaver job fairs, and look for employers who will let you join them for work experience. (Don’t rely on your school for this – try to arrange something off your own back for a time when you don’t need to be in school.)

* First, Learn More About YourselfYour first order of business is to learn as much as you can about yourself. If you think you know all there is to know, you will definitely be surprised by what you will discover by doing a thorough self assessment. While you can find online resources to help you with this, the most efficient and effective way to do it—although often not the cheapest—is to hire a career development professional, for example, a career counselor or career development facilitator.

 * Research careers-Once you have figured out the things you like to do and the things you do well, you can begin exploring careers that incorporate your interests and skills as well as the education needed, average salary earned, potential job openings.
* Get financial aid- Many career colleges are affordable, more so than large universities. However, money is an important factor for most students. If the cost of tuition is something that has been holding you back from getting an education and achieving your dreams, look for schools that offer help with financial aid. A good career college will have a department devoted to helping all students be able to cover tuition, whether through scholarships, loans, or other means.

 * Set goals - After your list has been narrowed, establish attainable goals. You should be informed enough to establish short and long term goals. Typically, short-term goals can be met between 1-3 years and long-term between 3-5 years. It will not be easy reaching each goal, so be prepared to work hard, make adjustments when necessary, and remain committed. Goals are typically achievable when they're defined, flexible, realistic, and attainable within a specified time period.

*Obtain training - Obtaining required career training will probably consume the majority of your time and efforts as you pursue a career. Depending on the profession, you may be required to earn a college degree, complete vocational training, learn new skills, or complete an apprentice or internship.
