Lagos State lawmakers on Monday have reportedly impeached the Speaker of the Lagos State
House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, allegedly over multiple allegations of fraud ,gross misconduct and abuse of office.52-year-old Obasa has been speaker of the Lagos State House of
Assembly since June 8 2015, he resumed office alongside former one-term
governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
The Clerk of the House, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, was also
suspended indefinitely, while the Chief Whip, Mr Mojeed Fatai, was elected the
new Deputy Speaker.
Multiple sources confirmed that the lawmakers removed Obasa
during a plenary session on Monday.

However, the Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has been sworn
in as the new Speaker.
The lawmakers subsequently elected Mojisola Meranda,
representative of Apapa I, as the new speaker.
This comes amid allegations of corruption and financial
mismanagement against the speaker.
Meranda, who took her oath of office immediately, would serve
as the first female speaker of the Lagos legislature.
