WHO IS BUHARI ? KING OF THE NORTH OR PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA?

The breaking news appeared that Nigerian President Buhari asked the World Bank to concentrate all their improvement efforts in Nigeria only on the north

The World Bank president, Jim Yong Kim, told about this at his press conference in Washington.
According to Kim, during his first meeting with Buhari, Buhari told that he wanted the World Bank to alter their focus to the northern region of Nigeria. And the Bank gladly followed Buhari`s wish.

This fact has immediately sparked numerous reactions on Twitter and Facebook making “Northern Nigeria” a trending topic. The exposure of Mr. Kim’s statement further fortifies the quarrel that Nigerian President Buhari is biased to the north and never hides it. This dispute is roughly as old as Buhari’s political career.

In several months after Buhari’s swearing-in in 2015, informs NAIJ Nigeria, Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti state governor, accused Buhari of the “Northernization of Nigeria,” decrying his irregular appointments that significantly favored people from the North. It is not surprising as over 80 percent of Buhari’s 15.4 million votes came from the North and less than 8 percent from the South-South, even though ethnocentrism is never justified. The nature of his victory, while a win for democracy, was an indicator of the instability of ethnicism in the country, the weighty nervousness between the South and the North.
For several times already President Buhari has been accused of favoritism. Oby Ezekwesili, ex-education minister, accused the President of Nigeria of “deliberately” alienating “a segment of the people” he leads. She also added that “it is the lowest form of churlishness that is unbecoming of a leader to send signals that you dislike anyone of the groups you lead,” remembering Buhari`s deployment of soldiers in the South-East for Operation Python Dance Two.

Therefore, it looks like when President Buhari tries to choose between Nigeria and the North, he selects the North. So, there is a question. Where his commitment lies: to his tribe or his country?
