SIMPLE WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR BODY PART THAT FIGHTS DIABETES

SIMPLE WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR BODY PART THAT FIGHTS DIABETES

The rate of diabetes has doubled since the 1990s. If you want to improve the part of your body that can help you resist diabetic complications, researchers have found a simple trick for keeping your blood sugar under control and protecting your health

A study at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts shows that lifting weights and boosting muscle strength can control the damaging effects of diabetes. After 16 weeks of resistance training, people taking part in this research showed significant improvement in their blood sugar levels.

The research involved Hispanic adults who already had type 2 diabetes.

“This study, along with some of our prior research has focused on Hispanic older adults because of their especially high rates of diabetes and poor blood sugar control,” says researcher Castaneda Sceppa. “If resistance training is effective in such a high-risk population, it may offer a promising strategy for blood sugar control among other adults with diabetes, as well.”

If you’ve never performed resistance exercises, you should get expert advice from a personal trainer or another professional in the proper method of lifting weights. But the results from these exercises make the effort worthwhile.
