ICAN READY TO ASSIST FG FIGHT CORRUPTION

In the quest to help this present administration to fight corruption, the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria ( ICAN) says it is committed to assisting the Federal Government in the war against corruption in the country

The institute said this led to the introduction of a new ethical code which allows appropriate financial regulatory authority access to relevant information that can help their investigation.

ICAN had about two weeks ago launched a new ethical standard for accountants and auditors in Nigeria. Called Non Compliance with Laws and Regulations, the new code is a global ethical standard for professional accountants and auditors.

The President, ICAN, Alhaji Isma’ila Zakari, while speaking at the investiture of Mrs. Blessing Osakwe-Ogo as the 23rd chairman of the Lagos Mainland and District Society of the institute, said the new standard would enable members to exhibit high level of professionalism that would help in the war against corruption.

The event was held at the institute annex office in Ebute-Meta, Lagos.

Zakari said, “The ‘Non Compliance with Laws and Regulations code would guide auditors and accountants. The benefit of the code is that it can disclose non compliance situations to the appropriate public authorities without being constrained by ethical duty of confidentiality.”

Zakari also urged the members of the district to continue to raise the bar as the foremost district society of ICAN.

Meanwhile, Blessing Osakwe-Ogo mentioned capacity building, membership drive and the completion of the ongoing projects as her topmost priority.

The immediate past Chairman of the district, Sir Amobi Nwokafor, while expressing his happiness for the successes recorded in his tenure, said he had confident that his successor would excel in office.
